Alternative Cancer Treatments - Cure Cancer Naturally

Cancer is talked about more and more each day. Everyone probably knows someone who has or had cancer. It is something that can devastate an entire family. It takes a lot to battle it and even hearing words like surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy can make a person feel worse. This has resulted in millions of dollars in researching alternative cancer treatments. There are several options available to a patient if he or she doesn't want to use the normal but yet toxic methods to battle the illness.

The fact of the matter is that tradition cancer methods are both expensive and can be harmful to the body and often leaves the patient feeling terrible and weak. There are certain alternative ways to fight cancer that are being tested. One of the main ones is homeopathy. With homeopathy, trace amounts of the harmful cancer causing agents are introduced in the body in an attempt to trigger the body to defend against the harmful agents.

Physical touch methods are also being looked at as possible options in cancer treatments. Acupuncture falls under this method. The basis of acupuncture is putting needles in key spots on the body that unclog "flows of energy" in the body in hopes to balance it. Although it isn't proven to be a cancer remedy, it is known to reduce pain. Along the same lines, chiropractic therapy is known to boost the immune system of someone who is battling cancer. Massages are another physical touch method, but again it is mainly used to relieve pain and help a cancer patient to relax.

Possible one of the most talked about natural cancer treatments is nutritional therapy. It's a known fact that eating a healthy diet can be the difference between a healthy and non-healthy person. However, aside from keeping your body healthy, there are some foods that are known to prevent and cure certain types of cancer like breast cancer. These cancer-battling agents are often found in fruits like berries and pomegranates.

Going through the grueling process of both surgery and chemotherapy really takes a toll on someone battling cancer. It could even make the person feel worse than they did before they started their treatment. This is the reason why people are looking into alternative cancer treatment methods that are healthier for the body. Click here for more reasons to use natural cancer treatments

5 Important Prostate Cancer Tests That You Should Know About

The mere mention of prostate cancer cause cause a panic in many men. The truth of the matter is though that just like any other cancer, if detected early, your chances of successful treatment of prostate cancer are very high. However, if you allow the cancer to grow too much, it can become very difficult to treat -- in some cases impossible. Because your risk of prostate cancer development increases dramatically after the age of 50, it is crucial that men in this age group get regular checkups and health exams.

Although prostate cancer screening is not considered a routine procedure, you can get tested with a simple request. Regular screening is very important for the following reasons:

1. After the age of 50, your risk of prostate cancer increases substantially. Your risk generally continues to increase as you grow older. After 75 years of age, the risk increases even more. Approximately 50% of prostate cancer cases are diagnosed after the age of 75.

2. It is also likely that genetics play a large role in determining your risk of prostate cancer. If you have a family history of the disease, your chances of developing prostate cancer increase. There are also particular racial groups that are known to contract the disease more often than others. Asians usually have the lowest risk, with Europeans and African-Americans having higher risk, respectively. It is also suspected that lifestyle plays a large part in your risk, because if you are Asian but live in the United States for an extended period of time, your risk of prostate cancer starts to approach the same level as other Caucasian Americans.

Prostate Cancer Tests

There are a variety of tests that are used to detect the presence of prostate cancer. Your physician will often conduct more than one test before coming to a definitive answer. A diagnosis is more reliable after a number of different tests have been performed.

The Rectal Examination

Laughed at by many people, this test involves the insertion of a gloved and lubricated finger into a patient's rectum in order to feel the size and shape of the prostate gland. This is effective for the detection of an enlarged prostate, but be aware that an enlarged prostate does not always signify prostate cancer. However, this is one of the easier and quicker ways of detecting some of the symptoms of prostate cancer.

Ultrasound

This involves the insertion of a small probe into a patient's rectum. After an ultrasound scan is conducted on the prostate, it reveals the current shape and size of the gland.

PSA Blood Test

The Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) blood test is a common test used for detection. The presence of prostate cancer is inferred from higher than normal levels of this specific antigen found in the blood. However, this procedure should be included with other testing methods as well, since other conditions can result in high PSA levels.

Biopsy

If there is a reason to be concerned, a biopsy of the prostate gland may be conducted. This procedure is undertaken by taking a small sample from the prostate for analysis. This occurs by inserting a small needle into the prostate with the use of a small probe.

X-Ray

An x-ray of the bones surrounding the prostate may also be taken if cancer is detected. Prostate cancer very often spreads to the lymph nodes and bones. If any damage has been done to bones nearby, an x-ray will be able to determine if the cancer has spread.

All About Hodgkin's Lymphoma

Hodgkin’s lymphoma or Hodgkin’s disease is a rare for of cancer which is characterized by orderly growth of malignant cells of the lymphatic system. Described for the first time by Thomas Hodgkin in 1832, this disease primarily affects the lymph nodes and later spreads to other parts of the lymphatic system.

The most significant characteristic of Hodgkin’s lymphoma is presence of malignant B-cells with unique characteristics. These cells are called as Reed-Sternberg cells. Hodgkin’s lymphoma mainly occurs in individuals with depleted immune system and persons infected with viruses including HIV, Epstein-Barr virus and HTLV-I. Epidemiology of this disease is unique. The frequency of Hodgkin’s lymphoma is predominant in two separate age groups. These include individuals between 15-35 years of age and individuals above 55 years of age.

Hodgkin’s lymphoma is primarily classified into classical Hodgkin’s lymphoma (CHL), nodular sclerosis (NS), lymphocyte predominance (LP), mixed cellularity (MC), Lymphocyte depleted (LD) and nodular lymphocyte predominant Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NLPHL) depending on the Reed-Sternberg cell morphology. The most common symptom of Hodgkin’s disease is swelling in the lymph nodes of the neck and chest. Other noticeable symptoms include enlarged spleen, swollen liver, fever, excessive sweating, fatigue, abnormal weight loss and itchy skin. The disease could be medically diagnosed through microscopical examination of Reed-Sternberg cells during biopsy. Other diagnostic methods include physical examination, chest X-rays, blood cell counts, and CT scan and MRI scan of the lymphatic system, PET scanning, gallium scanning and bone marrow aspiration.

Hodgkin’s lymphoma is one of the first cancers to have been cured using radiation therapy. Other therapeutic approaches include chemotherapy, bone marrow and peripheral blood transplantation and immunotherapy. The common chemotherapeutic regimens followed for the treatment of Hodgkin’s lymphoma include ABVD (Adriamycin, bleomycin, vinblastine, dacarabzine), BEACOPP (bleomycin, etoposide, adriamycin, cyclophosphamide, vincristine, procarbazine, prednisone), COPP/ABVD, MOPP (mechlorethamine, oncovin, procarbazine, prednisone) and Stanford V.
